Seeing the good in our community
By: Donald S. Conkey
A TV station we watch has a slogan that reads “See the good in the world today.” I ponder that slogan every morning as I prepare for the new day. I even ask the Lord to help me to be a part of the good in the world. This thought renews my faith in America and in our community of Towne Lake.
When I look for the good in the world I can see it all around me – mostly from people not making the headlines. These are the people who make our local community function and make them a wonderful place to raise a family. Far too few take the time to even look for the good, let alone to see the good that surrounds us.
I am SO OVER “austerity”!
By: Les Dunaway
The term austerity has been misused hundreds of times daily for months now! It annoyed me the first time, as calling a leg a tail always does.

To listen to the mainstream media, voters might think that the outcome of the upcoming Presidential election is a foregone conclusion. Here are a few.
How Presidents Are Elected – Really
By: J. Randolph Evans
Most voters think they elect the President and Vice President on General Election Day. This year, General Election Day is November 6, 2012. But, the truth be told, voters actually only elect Presidential Electors on General Election Day. Each state (and the District of Columbia) gets the total number of their Congressional delegation (both U.S. House and Senate) as Electors. For Georgia, this means 16 Electors – 14 (reflecting the total number of its Representatives) plus 2 (reflecting its 2 U.S. Senators). There are a total of 538 Electors (435 reflecting the total number of Representatives, plus 100 reflecting the number of Senators, plus 3 for the District of Columbia.
Halftime for GOP Nomination

In 2011, the best team in baseball on paper was the Philadelphia Phillies. Indeed, virtually every sports commentator expected the Phillies to win their division, pennant, and the World Series. On the other hand, no one gave the St. Louis Cardinals much of a chance. In fact, with 31 games to go, the Cardinals were ten and a half games behind the Atlanta Braves in their division. As painful as it was to watch, the Braves collapsed and the Cardinals went on to win the division, the pennant and the World Series. The Phillies were not even in the World Series. As the old adage goes, that is why they play the games.
