The folks screaming for more gun laws after the Connecticut tragedy don’t seem to be aware of Chicago.

Chicago has been a lab experiment in gun rights and in the significance of the Second Amendment since the days of Al Capone.

Most of the famous killings in the Al Capone era were gangster versus gangster. Few “civilians” were killed, but they were beaten , exploited and oppressed daily. The mobs existed because of corrupt government.

Corrupt government existed, as always, because citizens had become subjects – through a “good men doing nothing”.

Elliot Ness became necessary only because of the corruption of the police department and city of Chicago. The maxim “An armed man is a citizen, an unarmed man is a subject” comes to mind.
There is a strong lesson for today’s Americans in what happened there. The people behind the effort to disarm Americans have made clear their intent, to seize power by whatever means. The history of Chicago, a population enslaved by a corrupt government for over 100 years, will be the future of America unless the good men stand up.
